EllaOne contains ulipristal acetate as its active ingredient. EllaOne prevents pregnancy by delaying or stopping your ovaries from releasing an egg (ovulation). You should take a replacement dose if you vomit within three hours of taking the tablet.
Remember that EllaOne is not meant to replace your regular method of contraception.
After taking EllaOne, you should have your next period as usual. However, some women report that their period is either a couple of days early or late. This is perfectly normal and should not give you any reason to panic.
How to Use EllaOne
You can take EllaOne with or without food. Take one tablet orally within 5 days of unprotected sex. If you vomit within 3 hours of taking the tablet, you should take a replacement dose. Don’t take EllaOne within the same period cycle - opt for other forms of contraceptive methods instead.
EllaOne Side Effects
The most common side effects of EllaOne include back pain, vomiting, headache, abdominal pain, dizziness, breast tenderness, changes in your mood and diarrhoea. These side effects usually go away on their own. However, if they persist or if you are suffering from uncommon side effects, contact your doctor.
