How Does It Work?

Yasmin works by changing the lining of your uterus. This keeps the sperm from reaching your egg, thus preventing fertilization. Yasmin also helps prevent your ovaries from releasing a mature egg (ovulation).

When used correctly, Yasmin is tested and proven to be effective in preventing pregnancies 99% of the time. Like all contraceptive pills, there are also risks associated with taking this medication so it’s important that you understand its pros and cons clearly beforehand.

How to Use

Take one tablet of Yasmin every day, ideally at the same time. This contraceptive pill is a 21-day course, meaning you take one pill every day for 21 days. You should have your period during the week after your last dose.

If you want to continue protecting yourself from unwanted pregnancy, begin a new course at the end of the 7 pill-free days regardless of whether or not you are still bleeding. No extra contraceptive methods are necessary if you choose to have sex during this period. You should be safe as long as you take Yasmin as instructed.

Each strip of Yasmin pill tablets is labelled with the day of the week and an arrow to guide you. Follow the tablets in the direction of the arrows until you’ve finished the course. If you miss a dose, take one as soon as you remember. You may take 2 pills at the same time if necessary. After which, continue on your usual schedule.

To make sure that you are safe, we encourage using additional contraceptive methods in the days following your missed dose.

There’s a big chance that your body has not absorbed all the hormones if you suffer from diarrhoea or are sick within two hours of taking the pill. To compensate, take a dose from an extra strip in the box Then, continue with your usual schedule. You don’t need additional contraception if you choose to have sex during this period.

Suffering from severe diarrhoea and vomiting may require up to 7 days of recovery. During this time, exercise with caution and use additional forms of contraceptive methods.

Side Effects

Like all medicines, Yasmin also has its own side effects. Most of these, however, are mild. These side effects include:

  • Nausea
  • Headache
  • Vaginal yeast infection
  • Depressive mood
  • Pain in the breasts

Your risks of developing blood clots may also increase when taking Yasmin. Contact your doctor right away if you notice anything unusual.
