Finasteride is a safe and effective hair loss treatment that is proven to achieve impressive results. It is the generic version of Propecia, meaning it is medically equivalent to its branded counterpart and therefore just as effective. The only difference is that Finasteride is not a branded medication, and this means it can be acquired at a much lower price point.
This is a generic product, therefore depending on availability, the brand you receive may not be the same as the one pictured.

What is Finasteride?
When the UK patent for Propecia expired on 11th October 2014, it became possible for pharmaceutical companies to supply men with the more cost-effective, generic equivalent of the treatment. This is Finasteride. This medication contains the same medical composition and active ingredient (Finasteride) as Propecia.
Finasteride is used to treat male pattern baldness on the vertex and the anterior mid-scalp. Within several months, Finasteride can help to halt and even reverse thinning hair on the scalp. This is a treatment been designed specifically for men to treat male pattern baldness, and therefore should not be used by women or children.
How does Finasteride work?
Dihydrotestosterone (DHT) is a testosterone by-product. While the breakdown of testosterone is a natural process, some men are particularly sensitive to the potential negative effects it can have, including being a major contributing factor to male pattern baldness. DHT attacks the hair follicles, causing the hair to slowly fall out.
Finasteride works by preventing the conversion of testosterone to DHT. This helps get to the root of the issue, eliminating the compounds which cause baldness and therefore stopping and even reversing the balding process.
Benefits of Finasteride
Finasteride has been tested in clinical trials and the results show just how effective it can be, particularly on the scalp and vertex. After 2 years of treatment, a study of 535 men found that 99% had visible results involving either regrowth or no further hair loss:
- 66% had hair regrowth
- 33% had no further hair loss
- 1% had a visible decrease in hair
After 5 years of treatment, a study of 279 men found that 90% had visible results:
- 48% had hair regrowth
- 42% had no further hair loss
- 10% had a visible decrease in hair
Most users of Finasteride begin to notice the effects of the medication within 3–6 months.
How to use Finasteride
Finasteride is designed for daily use. One tablet should be taken every day, at any time, with or without food. Taking more than the recommended dose of Finasteride will not make it any more effective, but will likely increase your chances of experiencing negative side effects.
If you miss a day’s dose of Finasteride, simply start again the next day. Do not take a double dose to make up for a lost day. You will need to continue taking Finasteride for three or more consecutive months in order to see visible positive results, and long-term usage is advised in order to get the most benefits. If you stop taking Finasteride, hair loss may resume within 6–12 months.
Precautions and side effects
Most men are able to use Finasteride without experiencing any adverse effects. However, like all prescription medication, Finasteride carries a small chance of side effects. These can include a loss of libido, erectile problems and ejaculatory issues. Less common side effects include pain in the testicles, breast growth and depression.
If you do experience any of these side effects and they persist, cease using the treatment and speak with your GP as soon as possible. Be sure to read the enclosed Patient Information Leaflet carefully before you begin taking Finasteride.
